Remi Hendriks joins INTERSECT as a new PhD Student at University of Twente

The INTERSECT consortium welcomes Remi Hendriks as a new PhD student working in the consortium at the University of Twente (UT) starting in October 2023. Remi recently completed the Master’s in Computer Science at UT, after also completing the Bachelor’s in Computer Science at the same university.

Remi will work under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ir. Roland van Rijswijk-Deij, Dr. Ir. Raffaele Sommese and Dr. Ir. Mattijs Jonker in the group of Design and Analysis of Communication Systems (DACS). Overall, the goal of the work of Remi is to build out the use of IP anycast to protect against DDoS attacks and to develop new mechanisms to defend against such attacks.

When asked to make a comment about his research, Remi commented: “My research involves a lot of active measuring of the Internet. Since the measuring we perform is innovative, it requires me to create and program these measurement tools. I really enjoy making such specialized tools. The process that follows is just as exciting.
I did my Master’s thesis for the DACS (Design and Analysis of Communication Systems) chair at the University of Twente, under the supervision of Roland and Raffaele. I very much enjoyed doing this thesis and working at DACS. So, when Roland offered to hire me as a PhD candidate at DACS after I finished my thesis, it was not a difficult decision to make. I also have a real interest in the field, and I hope to contribute to it with my PhD work.

We congratulate Remi on his new role and we look forward to seeing exciting research from the whole UT group in INTERSECT.
